Blogger's Quilt Festival

This quilt was made for my new niece that is set to arrive in the next few weeks. I made this quilt using the pattern Toe the Lime by Blueunder Ground Studios. This was nice and quick to put together. I used the fabric line Kumari Garden by Dena Designs. I did a ripple quilting on it with a pink variegated thread. I also backed the quilt in Hot Pink Corduroy. I think little Morgan will like her new quilt. I'm sure it won't be her last, but definitely her first.

Bloggers Quilt Festival

It's that time again. I so love to look at all the quilts people have made and get inspired. I've not done a whole lot of Quilting this year. I've just had alot to get threw in my personal life, but the ones I've made have put a smile on my face. I've started to get back and love it. I just love how making a new quilt warms your insides. I also have not blogged in sometime so I hope I don't ramble on. For this round I've posted a quilt that I love that makes me think of spring. I call it Ric Rac Flowers the pattern name is Liliana by Crazy Old Ladies Quilts. I've never used Ric Rac in a Quilt and just fell in love with the Flowers and the large size Ric Rac. I also put this in our Guild quilt show this year and I'm happy to say I got first place in the small bed quilt category. I hope you enjoy it. I also want to thank Amy for always doing such a great job putting this all together. Also a thank you to all the quilters that let us in to look at the work they have done. So snaps to everyone.

Charming Girls' July/August

Well I'm jumping in and going to set a few goals for July/August here goes nothing:

1. I've been walking and have lost a few pounds, so I think a few more would be great. I've also set a goal to do my first 5K over Labor Day weekend. I've never done this and thought this would be a good start. My husband is a runner and is setting me up with a good workout. I just wish it wasn't so darn hot.

2. I need to get back to my machine and just get one project done. I've had such a bad sewing summer. Our guild has a quilt show at the end of September and at this time of the year I'm usually not this calm. I also have a few more quilts done than what I have. So for the rest of this month and next I want to get two quilts that are done quilted, bond and a quilt label put on them.

3. Go away for a weekend with the hubby. I think this will be much needed since he's a welder and has been putting in overtime. Side note today's heat index is 103. He will need some time off and a quilt shop on the way won't be bad at all. I think he likes to go to them. At least they'll have air conditioning.

Well I think these sound good. It will be a start. So until next time

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Spring 2010

I sure had hoped to get this up a little sooner. It's just the story of my life at the moment. So here it is:

This is called In Santa's Workshop. I just loved making it. This was the first time that I did shading and coloring on a quilt. I took a class to get some of the basics down. All the faces on the elves were done with the same fabric. I just used different colors for them. I used fabrico markers and crayons. Some of the elves had more work to them than others. If you look close up at the boots those also have shading done to them.

On this one below the wood and the sawhorse are one piece of fabric, but with some coloring it looks like different pieces. I loved how this came out.

My husband calls this the Target elf.

On this one the stool was shaded and the fabric he's holding is all one piece of fabric. The shading and coloring really make a difference.

I'm by far not an artist, but for my first time I don't think it turned out to bad. Hope every enjoys. Have a great Blogger's Quilt Festival. Don't forget to check all the other beautiful quilts over at Park City Girl. Amy does such a great job. TaTa for now.

A new found focus.... & Stash Report

I'm sure that I'm not the only one the has lost focus. The only thing is that it's not just quilting. These last few months I've found that I'm just not feeling anything. I truly believe that this is all from what happened to me last August. All is well today, I went threw something that has and will change my out look on life now and forever. I've done the self reflecting and have found my way back. While on the journey of self discovery. I fell of the wagon and bought some fabric. It always gives makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. My last count for my two and a half months of soul searching brought in a whopping 116.5 yards of fabric. This would include but not limited to fabric buy the yard, jelly rolls, fat quarter bundles, charm packs, layer cakes, & backing fabrics. I also bought a few kits at Quilt Festival in Chicago, last year for that and it was so close to my house, so bye bye Chi Town hello Cincinnati. Back to the focus, see how I stray it's so hard to stay focused. I need to stay on track because our guilds quilt show is in September and I always try to make a quilt that I could win a ribbon with. I've been able to win a ribbon at the last 4 quilt shows for our guild. I have 4 quilts done, but none of them say "I would look good with a ribbon pinned to me". So it's time to get focus on the quilt show. For the next few months I'm going to try to keep everyone up to date on the progress. I'm making my list and things are going to start rolling. I sure hope it won't be my head, because of all the things going on in there. So tonight's the night for it to start lists will be made, stacks will be sorted and the machine will be cleaned and ready to go. Sorry this has gotten so long.

So as far as the stash report goes I'm in the red by 70.5 yards. I think it's time to get that number back to the black, so off I go. Tata for now

Ugly Quilt Contest

Natalia Bonner at piecenquilt has announced that she is having an Ugly Quilt contest. If you get a chance go over and put a picture of yours up. What a great chance to win a prize.

Well here it is:

I think it wouldn't be bad if it was made with different fabrics. The pattern is called Bamboo & Pinwheels and you can make two quilts with the fabric. Which is always a great thing to use up every bit of fabric. I however tossed the left overs in a box that may or may not see the light of day. Maybe one day down the road I will pull it out and make the other half. This was a kit that I bought at Houston's Quilt Festival. There is a funny story behind the madness. My friend and I had just got to the show after catching a plane from Chicago at the butt crack of dawn. I'm by far not an early riser, but when I want to go some where I will get up. My friend is worse than me as far as getting up early. We walked it the doors at 10:51 AM, that should give you some clue of how early we were up. This time also includes the shuttle to the convention center and checking our bags up stairs at the show. If you ever want to check a bag at this show go upstairs to do that, other wise your taking a chance of getting a package lost in the ones on the show floor. Back to the ugly quilt. We went to our first booth and found a sale on 3000 yard spools of thread. For $6.00 bucks how can you pass up that and variegated ones too. We each bought a few maybe like 10. After that we both looked at each other and wondered what we had that would go with these threads we had just bought. Just then we both looked up and saw this quilt and instantly we picked the kits up and bought them.

Well we went on our merry way the rest of the weekend. When I got home unpacked the bags and placed all my new purchase in the quilt room. I few months went by and I got the kit out and started to put it together(I'm sure I'm not the only one that buys things and doesn't get back to them for sometime). I called my friend and asked what the H@#! were we thinking when we bought this kit. I was told to look at the threads we bought, it all came back to me. After that we both promised each other that we will try to stay away from buying things when we are sleep deprived or had a few drinks to many the night before. Sorry to go on so long, I guess you had to be there. So her it is in all it's glory, enjoy. Tata for know

Stash Report Week # 13

Wow, time sure does fly. Next week will be April this year is just movin along. I'm working on a few thing however nothing finished. I've not bought anything, because I'm saving up for the Chicago Quilt Festival in April. I'm seeing alot of great projects that everyone is working on and it make me want to start more. I would love to do another quilt along to use up some of my stash. Does anyone know of any out there? I did quilt a few quilts for some of our guilds groups. One for the for out ABC group and another for Habitat for Humanity, but nothing for me. So no numbers to change here. Until next time

This week I finished quilting my Liliana Quilt. I really like how the quilting turned out. I worked on a few block of the months. I thing I'm addicted to block of the months. I'm doing the pinwheel sampler & the jelly roll sampler online. I think I have a few others as well. I also went to a quilt show yesterday. This has been a busy week. Not so glad to lose an hour, but glad it will be staying lighter outside longer. Until next week.

This week I finished my Lilianna quilt made with the Verna fabrics. I 've got to still put some Ric Rac on the quilt, but that will get put on after I quilt the quilt. I also give my Gone With the Wind Quilt to my friend so she can use it for a store sample. So this was a productive week of quilting. I also join in the for of the Spring Sewing Party over at Charming Chatter. That was fun, even though I didn't get as much done as I wanted. I did manage to do some cleaning in my sewing room, which needed it. So until next time.

Spring Sewing Party

UPDATE: 10:30 PM

Well this was the progress this afternoon. I got some of the pieces for my Fairy Dust Quilt done. I got a little flustered with the paper piecing and decided to clean the sewing room. I'm glad I got going early this morning and got a few other things done sewing wise. I'm also glad that I did a little cleaning as well everything looks so nice and clean. I also received a call from my mom and she asked us over for dinner. How could I say no to dinner with my mom & dad. Until next time.

Well as of 1:00 PM I've managed to finish the "Verna" Quilt I was making. I finished the borders and but the applique on. After it's quilted I have some Ric Rac to put in the white of the border. The pattern is Liliana by Crazy Old Ladies.
I've also finished the First block for the Pinwheel Sampler over at P.S. I Quilt.

Up next is to make Block three of my Fairy Dust Quilt. I've also got a few half Square triangles to make. Back to the machine.

Well I'm trying something new. I've decided to join in on the "Spring Sewing Party" hosted by Kelly and Joan at Charming Chatter. I'm hoping to work on a few of my Fairy Dust Blocks that I've have for a few years. I also would like to finish my quilt made with "Verna" fabrics. I've got things lined up and ready to go. I'm excited about doing this. So until tomorrow.

Gone with the Wind & Stash Report

Well it's done the Gone with the Wind quilt. I finished the borders and took a quick picture. I've got it on the quilting machine. In hopes of finishing it up this week. My friend wants to use the quilt as a sample for a quilt show she's vending at in the next few weeks. So this needs to get done soon. Stash Report Week # 6 & 7

Sorry but I wasn't around to do the stash report last week. So this week will cover both weeks. Well first the good news or should I start out with the bad. I think the bad will go first and end on the good. This week I bought 15 yards of fabric. I have been waiting for the "Gone With the Wind" fabric to come in and sure enough it did. I bought enough to make a quilt and the backing when the shop that I go to has buy 2 yards get the 3 yard free. I had to buy something. I know that everyone else would have done the same thing. With that said 15 yards came home with me. I got the backing fabric for free. Free fabric is a girls dream. So below is the fabric for the backing I just love it.

I've already got some of the the other fabric cut out and I'm piecing it together. I should have the quilt done this week.

Now for the good news I managed to finish a few tops the last few weeks. I was so glad to get more things done. So here are a few pictures. The first one is my logged on quilt I had this done a few weeks back but didn't take a picture.

Same for my Fire Escape quilt that I finished in the last quiltathon.

Next up is Savanna By Bonnie Blue Quilts. This was made with the Harper's Fairy Fabrics.

These next two pictures are from a class I took last year at the Quilt Festival in Chicago. I finally put the borders on. I really like these blocks alot and thing I have to make another quilt.

Next up is "Freeze Frame". I call it Flipped Out because of the flip flop fabric I used. I just love how it turned out. Thanks Judy. Yes all this came from my stash.

Last one is a block of the month that I made for our guild. I have the ladies doing these each month. I just picked some fabrics from my stash and started to sew a few blocks together. I need to give them the yardage so I come up with the center block and built around it. I've always wanted to do a medallion style quilt. I've not showed them the finish quilt, it's still a mystery to them.

Not to much to report this week. Nothing in nothing out. A few projects in the works, but nothing finished. I have however found a new love. That would be "Verna" by Kate Spain. I love this fabric. I have a feeling this will send me over the edge. I will have to buy some yardage. I also found that Fat Quarter Shop has the yardage and a new designer Block of the Month with Kate Spains 12 Days of Christmas fabric. I couldn't help my self and have already signed up. That won't start until June. In the mean time I need to finish up a few things so that I will have something for our guilds quilt show in September. Until next week.

Stash Report Week # 4

Wow, what a week. I got lots done. I finished the top of my class project from last week that's 3 yards out. I can add that in because I didn't get it done until after my week two stash report. I was also able to piece the left over fabrics together to get the backing 2 yards. So that's a plus. I managed to finished the top of my fire escape so that's more out of the stash 5.675 yards. I cut a few more things up. I was also working on the rest of the center medallion for my Mystic Forest quilt and found that I was short fabric. So I'm stalled on that until they send me a 10x10 square piece. I did forget that I didn't add that to my totals so that's 2 yards in. I also quilted a couple of small quilts for a new quilter, that just needed a little help. I have a short arm that I quilt my projects on, but I don't normaly do anyone else's. I felt bad and helped her, but that's another story. I'm not sure if it was just me or if anyone else would have done it so three of those quilted. I think that puts a wrap to this weeks item. Quiltathon Post# 2

Wow this has been a great sewing weekend. I Finished the top from my workshop that I took yesterday. That's the first photo. I finished some pinwheel block for a block of the month I'm working on. The pieces will be put in a center block like the third picture. This is a Block of the Month from Painted Pony Quilt Shop called Mystic River. This is really out of the box for me fabric wise. It has a lot of brights & Kaffe Fassett like fabrics. I can't what till I have all the block. The last photo is Fire Escape by Terry Atkinson. I'm using some Amy Butler fabrics that I've had for sometime. I think that's it, wow that's a lot. I should have Fire Escape done this week, so I can have another finish. Until next time.

Well another week down. I'm three weeks in a bought some fabric. I have a jelly roll of the Rouenneries by French General and have finally found the right pattern. I had to get some background and border fabric. I could have bought more, but this year I'm trying to use more of my stash. So 3.675 yards came home. I also took a workshop this week and learned lots of new tips to use in my quilting. I don't get to take to many because I work full time. When our guild has speakers that come on Saturdays I try to take them. I've made a lot of small things to put in quilts, but nothing finished to the point to call it done. I'm of to the machine to finish something this weekend for the quiltaton Judy has going. Until next time.

Quiltathon Post 1

This week was our Quilt Guild meeting and our speaker was Pam Buda from Heartspun Quilts. She did a great job on the lecture. We also had her come and do a workshop, we don't have to many on Saturdays. So today was the workshop. We learned alot of quick tips & techniques. This was a great class. Pam is real good and has alot of good ideas. So I sewed all day and only have a few bags. After I'm done here I'm of to the sewing machine to get more done. I also had a late night quilter last night and got a few pinwheel blocks done for a Block of the month I'm doing. I will have a few more pictures for tomorrows post. Until next time

Week #2

Well this week went by fast. I only got a little sewing done this week. I did cut out a quilt so that's something I can work on this week. I really wanted to sew today however we got a new TV for Christmas and decided it was time to put it up. I thought for sure it would only take an hour at the most. It turned into an all afternoon project. There went the sewing time. I have to say that going from a 27" TV to a 42" TV is quite a difference. Why we didn't do it soon is beyond me. I think it was because we had a TV that worked and was just fine. Well back to the stash report. Nothing in and nothing out so that's also good. Until next time

New Year, New Goals Week 1

It's been some time since my last post. I've not been slowing down but just haven't posted. First off I've been able to sew something the last three days. It's nice to have a long weekend, but back to regular schedule this week. I have finished two qults for Christmas and didn't take a picture of one of them. I've decided that this year will be a year of focus. Last year was a very hard year for myself and brought only a few good things. However this is not 2009 and this will be a good year. I can just tell already. Back to sewing I've got to get focased so that I can get some quilts done for our guilds quilt show. That event is in September, I have set a goal to get 15 quilts done and bust out some of my stash. I would love to get 200 yards busted. I'm setting high in hopes that I will make a push at the end. I don't have any idea why but I do work well under pressure. I have managed to get a quilt top done over the last few days. So that's a plus already. I also hope that I will post updates more often. So to start the year I've used 7.5 yards of fabric. Until next time

Houston here I come

Well my bags are packed and tickets printed. Tomorrow morning I'm off to Quilt Festival for four days. It's a good thing I've got a few this done to bring my stash totals up, because things will be coming home with me. I've had such a bad few months that this is a welcomed brake. I get to go with some friends, see quilts, take a class or two, & buy fabric. What more could a girl ask for? Oh, yes the best husband in the world. He has been my rock for the past few months and has gotten me threw a rough patch. So a big thank you to him. Back back to a happier moment Houston. I'm hoping to take a few pictures to post when I get back. Until next time.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

I was looking at blogs and found this great thing called Blogger's Quilt Festival (hosted by Amy over at Park City Girl). You get to pick your favorite quilt and talk about it. How fun is that to get to talk about your work. I picked my quilt called Summer Mosaic, this is one of my favorite quilts I've made over the years. I made this quilt in the summer of 2004, this was also the year my job was downsized and I was on good old unemployment. I how ever referred to it as my sabbatical. While on this break I found the fabric at my local quilt shop. It was a new line that had just come into the shop. The minute I saw the fabric I thought about a book I had bought two years before. I came home and started to look for the book, why is it everytime you need to find something you never can. After spending the afternoon looking I found the book called mosaic memories. I got to the shop the next morning and pick the fabric. I had decided that I was going to make the five color quilt and as luck would have it they had gotten the whole like with five colors. So fabric was bought might I say alot for three of the colors you needed 8 fabrics and for the other two you needed six fabrics. If your counting that's 36 plus the chain fabric or background. So 37 colors in total, I got in the car and was driving home and thought goodness I have to do alot of cutting. I then thought I have all day. For the next two weeks I sewed day and night to get this quilt done and quilted.

I loved it so much, that year our guild had it's quilt show (we have the show every other year). I put the quilt in the large bed quilt category. I was so proud of this quilt and how it keep me busy for those two weeks. On the first day of the show I saw that one of our vendors had picked it for vendors choice. I was thrilled because that meant someone other than my family like the quilt. Every chance I had I would look at the quilt hanging in the show. I also heard people talking about it. It made me smile with pride. A few weeks later one of the ladies in our guild called and asked me to bring my quilt to the next quilt meeting. I thought this means I won a ribbon. I was so happy because if you got a call to bring a quilt to the next meeting you won a ribbon. I was thrilled that I would get third place. So at the meeting we give our quilt to some one and they take it off and put a numbered card on it. At the meeting they pass out the awards by category. Mine was that last so first up was third place and my name wasn't call. I thought OK this means I got second place. So next was someone else's name for second place. I think I went into shock, does this mean what I thought it meant, that I won first place in the large bed quilt category. Sure did, I won first place. So that's the story behind this quilt. So this is so long. I hope everyone enjoys the picture.

Stash Report Week #21

Wow, week 21 this is hard to believe. Well this week I was able to do some sewing. I managed to get started on a Block of the Month that I've had for some time. I also got 30 blocks sewn together for another quilt I'm working on. So even if nothing got busted I still managed to get something started this week. Today we took our dog Sophie out to the Dog Day Afternoon in the park. The weather has been great today, it was nice to get out and take in the Sun. Stash Report week #18

This is the Quilt that was made in my "Let me Suprise You Class". I really like the fabrics & the block. In the class we just got the fabric to make the blocks. The sashing was a kit that I choose not to buy. I was able to come home and find something to make this similer. I post a picture when I get it finished.

These are the kits that I purchased at Chicago. The one with the batiks is by Edyta from laundry basket quilts. If any of you get a change to meet her or take a class she is a wonderful person and teacher. The things she does and puts together a great. The other quilt is a kit that has some brown & teal colors. It just seemed to look nice. So here goes to the adding for the fabric bought. Until next time.

Well it's been some time since my last post. What have I been up to well I went to Quilt Fest in Chicago April 17-19. On Friday the 17th we went to the show and did a walk around and found some good deals. We found our friends we were meeting up with and went out for dinner. Then stayed up to late having fun. The next day we had an all day class with Charlotte Angotti called "let me surprise you". This was a class you didn't have to think about. Thank goodness because I was half asleep. Everything was pre cut and in nice little bags. For the most part I got all the units put together. I will have a picture up soon of the blocks we made. I have to say we didn't have any pictures of what we were making until about 3:00 pm. I'm not a big one for making something and not having any clue where it's going. It was a fun class. Found more friends and had show and tell in the rooms. Also had a few drinks and stayed up late. We went to to show on Sunday and stayed till it closed. It's taken me a week to get my sleep back. It's nice to go away and cut loose, but I can't seem to get my bearings back in order to go to work the next week. I should have some pictures up this weekend of the few things I bought. I was real proud of my self for coming home with money. Also I found a new machine and would love to get it. I've come up with a plan to sell a few quilt related items to get this machine. I figure if it's just sitting around, why not let someone else be able to make something. I'm going to be selling fat quarters, kits, jelly rolls & charm packs. Well I have nothing to report. I've been working on the Quilt Along Project and a few others. I'm on our laptop today because our desk top computer got a virus yesterday. My husband and I know somethings about computers, but not a whole lot. We going to have to being it in and have it cleaned, that's what my brother in law has told us. I'm hoping to get this fixed so that I can download my next photo for the Quilt Along. Since all our photo stuff is on the other computer. I'm sure glad that we have another computer. I think with all this going on I'm going to get a laptop of my own. So in a way this was a good thing for the computer to get this virus. Until next time.

Stash Busting Week #9

This was a very good week for busting the stash. I finished my bamboo & pinwheels quilt. That is the purple, green & brown quilt at the top. What's nice about this pattern is that you make two quilts in one. The other half still needs to be put together. I'm not a big fan of the fabric so I'm having a hard time putting it together. This was a kit that my friend Karen & I bought in Houston in 2007. We were at the show all of an hour before we bought some thread that was being discontinued for $7.00 a cone(3000 yards cones), but anyway we were walking around the vendor area and found this quilt and we both looked at each other and said" This will go with that thread we just bought". That was it we bought the fabric kit. I decided that I needed to get a few things done before I go to the Rosemont Quilt show in April. I've really been thinking what were we on when we each bought this kit. I can't even say we drank the night before because that didn't happen until later. Well enough of that story. The other thing I got done this week was a quilt for our bedroom this spring. I took a picture of the quilt this week when it was half done. I'm going to have to have some help taking the finished quilts picture because it's 90X108. What's good is that it used alot of fabric. I was also able to piece the backing. I just need to go a get the batting to finish the quilt up. Until next week.

Well this week has been a very productive week. I finished putting my Butter Creme Frosting quilt together. That's on the quilting machine. I also finished up another quilt that was some what together that's the Blue & Brown. I have the backing together for that to quilt next. I just finished putting my last border on the Teal & Brown Quilt. That pattern is called Vienna Stars it uses half square triangles nice pattern. Those are the positives the bad news is the Web Sampler Finishing kit came, so that's why three things got done this week to keep me in the positive. Until next week

Stash Busting Week #4

Well ladies I caved this week. I bought a few things not much but a new book, pattern & fabric. I got the livin large book by Anka Treasures and a new Bonnie Blue Quilt Pattern. I bought 2 1/2 yards for sashing & 1 1/2 for the border for the Bonnie Blue Pattern. I think the rest of the fabric will come out of my stash. I thought that was at least a good part that I would use up some of my stash for the rest. The other good thing is my finishing keep for Web Sample hasn't arrived yet. I do think I'm going to join a few new Block of the Month programs. Those BOM's are my weakest link. Not to mention I like to buy Kits and April is quickly coming for the Chicago Quilt show. I've even signed up to take a class, the good thing is I won't have to buy any fabric for that class, oh wait it has a kit include pre cut and everything. I'm really excited that I was able to get in the class by Charlotte Angotti. We had a chance to go to a lunch at Houston Quilt Fest. and she was the speaker, boy was that I alot of fun. So I think the class will be to. Sorry I'm babbling on a bit. Off to the sewing machine so that next week I can take some fabric away.

Well, so far this year I've not bought anything. I did cut up a kit this week and did some sewing. It has been a little cold the last week here. On Friday night the temp in the car said it was zero out. That was the first time in two days that we had a positive number. Also I'm trying to feel better after a cold this last week. I don't think next week will be a good week because the finishing kit for Web Sampler will be coming. I broke down and bought a kit. Until next week.

New Year New Start

I hope that everyone had a Happy and Safe Holiday Season. I've decided to made some New Year's Plans. I'm not going to call them resolutions its sound to fake. I seem to never keep up with the one's I make, so I'm calling them Plans this Year. To Start:

1. I would like to reduce my stash and use what I can. I know that I will need to add a few things, but if just a quarter comes out of what I have that will make room for more.

2. I have some quilt kits that I've purchased and Quilt Festival in 2006 & 2007 (Houston & Chicago) that I would like to get done. This would free up at least two of my quilt baskets.

3. I would like to get at least one quilt top done each month. If more get done that that will not count for the next month, but will just be an extra finish.

4. I would like to lose a few pounds. I'm not going to say how many but if a few are gone by the end of next year I will call that a win.

5. I would like to put more post on my blog, I got so busy with our guild quilt show. That a few things got missed. One being my blog.

I think that these are plans that could happen. I sure hope at this time next year I have less in my stash, more quilt tops to quilt, I need more kits to make and a new clothes to wear. Busy Time of Year

Boy!! This sure is the busy time of year. It seems like the year just started and the end is near. In the past few weeks I've managed to try to move all my quilting items down to the basement. My husband said to me a few months ago-- " I would like to have one room in the House".
I said --" You do have a room in the house"
Husband -- "No, I would like to have a room that doesn't have your quilting stuff in it"(Quilting stuff)
I---- " I don't have quilting stuff in every room"
Husband--- " I think YOUR wrong" (That made me think before saying anything else)
I--- " I don't have anything in the bathroom"

After that conversation I figured it was time to move things from each room down to the really nice quilting area I have in the basement. I have nice baskets, a sewing table for two machines, a flannel board, cutting mat & a peg board. What more could a girl ask for. I've had some time to go threw my stash and pass off the fabric that I knew I would never use. I've brought over 5 nice size boxes to the girls at work to look over. I've managed to get two co-workers in to the Quilt World. So the least I could do is give them some fabric to start their own stash. I'm sure at some point I will asked them to bring the fabric I gave them back.( that's so wrong, but so true) I've also managed to get down to only having a sewing machine upstairs. I don't count the magazines that I have by the bed, or in the living room, because I have to have something to look at.

I've also told my self that this next year is going to be the year of the "QUILT KIT BUST". I've got a list so long of the quilt kits, it's truly something that I want to get BUSTED. I would like to finish a project a month. I tell my self after our guild quilt show that we have every two years. I will not go into overdrive two months before for the show to get everything done. I seem to do the same thing each time, but this year will be different. I want to get a least 3 quilts for the show done this next year. Enough of what I want to get done for next year, when I have so much to do this year.

I still have Christmas shopping to do. I've only got two people on my list done. We're hosting Christmas at our House for my husbands family. I still need to put up a tree, so that I don't totally bum my nephew out. Christmas isn't my favorite time of the year. I'm more of a fall late winter person. I like snowmen so I have those things out, but the tree just does seem to want to come out this year. Last year when the tree was up our younger dog Sophie liked to look at it when the tree had the lights on. We had one of those ornaments that when you would touch it it would turn the tree on. A couple of mornings I would get up and the tree was on. Each night I would ask my husband "did you turn the tree on this morning?" he would say" no". One morning I was putting my shoes on and Sophie jumped up on the couch and poked her nose on the ornament that turned the tree on. She than looked over at me as to say "I'm the one turning the tree on to look at." I told my husband that night and sure enough she did it again, so I think Sophie watched which one we would touch and figured out how to turn the tree on. She is a very smart dog, I sometimes think that if she could talk we would be in real trouble. Well I think this post is long enough at this point. TaTa for know.

Stashbusting in 2009

Judy Laquidara over at patchwork times is doing the stashbusting again in 2009. I've made it my mission to bust some of this stash that I have. I want to really attack the kits that I've got stacked up. I also have alot of fabric that needs to be able to fit in the nice baskets that I have in my sewing room(or should I say rooms). My goal is to be able to have everything in one area, at the present time I'm sewing in a spare room up stairs and also have a sewing area in the basement. I have a great set-up, back a few years ago my husband put those really nice wire baskets in a row of 4 and put a nice board on top so that I could pick out project to sort and go threw. I have managed to fill the top with fabric and the baskets could explode at any moment. That's 20 baskets full each row has five baskets. I also have shorter wire baskets with four in it, the top has a shorter basket, but still there are at least 12 more there. I would like everything to fit in those bins. Oh to dream, I will say all this now but I know for a fact that I will continue to buy more fabric. I will give it a shot at least. I would love to bust threw 100 yards. TaTa for now. A New Post

Sorry for such a long pause. The Guild that I'm in recently had our every other year quilt show. I was also in charge of our Silent Auction, boy this was alot of work. Our show was a great success, we have 143 members in our Guild and 103 of us put items in the show. This by far was our biggest and best show. We had over 520 quilts in our show. We'll I thought I would share the quilts that I was able to get done and quilted for our show. I put 12 quilts in this time. I think I had all the tops done by the end of August and had only two of of the quilts completely done (quilted, bond, quilt label, & a hanging sleeve on the back). Everything else I quilted & bond until the 25th of September. Did I mention that we also went on a trip to Florida for 5 days. Here are a few photos to look at. I also have decided that I'm going to start making smaller quilts. Tomorrow night is our Guild meeting to let us know who will receive a ribbon. I was called and my In Santa's Workshop got at least third place ( picture in an older post). I will post to let everyone know for sure. I also received a vendors choice. TaTa for now. Top Done

Well I got this top done today. I think it turned out OK. This means I have one more quilt to put in our Guild Quilt Show next month. These are blocks from the 2006 Hop Around Houston. That was the first time I went to Houston for Quilt Festival. So when I was there I thought it would be nice to make something marking my trip. What you had to do was go to each of the booths listed on a form. At the booth you got the fabric and pattern to make the block. Each shop had a finishing kit, but nothing really hit me. So a few weeks ago I decided to get these blocks out and make something out of them. I was able to find some of the fabric that went with the blocks. Then I saw a picture of a quilt on point and thought this would be perfect for these blocks. The only problem was the blocks looked to busy together. So I then thought I would sash them to break up the patterns and that seemed to work out pretty good. I had to also figure the setting triangles and then added borders. LONG OVERDUE!!

Sorry about not posting anything lately. It's been a busy few weeks. I've been on the LAQuilter Blog and Vicky is doing a Block of the Month Month. I thought I have so many that I'm working on that I should take on this challenge. So here are a few works in progress. The light colored block is a BOM called Fairy Dust by Starr Designs. The other one is The Great Pumpkin Quilt. I'm sure hoping to get these both done by next month. The Blocks at the top are from the 2006 Hop Around Houston. This quilt top should be done by Saturday afternoon. I think these will keep me busy for a little bit of time. TaTa for now. P.S. PeeWee 4 1/2 weeks till FL!!

Tree Skirt

Well here's the quilt top of the tree shirt from "Six Half Make A Whole Christmas". I think it turned out OK. Maybe I'll do some Quilting over the weekend. This was pretty easy to put together the direction were very good. The girls from the quilt branch have good directions to follow. They are really wonderful people. This past year I was Program Chair person for our guild and the ladies from The Quilt Branch came and did a Lecture/Workshop. Their patterns take you step by step which if your a beginner are great. Cleaning

No photo today, because my sewing area is a disaster area. Our guilds quilt show is at the end of September and I am in charge of the silent auction. I've had members brings me things over the last few months for me to put some baskets together with patterns and notions. So last night sometime after 9:00 PM(as my husband would say"my crazy time")I went down stairs to look over some of the things. I noticed I had three good size boxes (that are only about 24"h x 18"w x 36" l) that I've not touched since we moved in our house over 5 years ago. I've come to the conclusion that if I never bought one more quilt related item, I would still be able to make quilts till I die. So lets just say that the silent auction will have a lot more items donated thanks to the brown boxes. To think this wasn't even the stuff I was going to look thru to purge. I have 4 rubber maid containers with that stuff in it. Hopefully by the time I get threw everything I will have a well organized quilt area. To only dream!!!! TaTa for now. New Project

Sorry for not posting in the last few days. We were having trouble with our modem. Today was Second Saturday at the Quilt Shop(something else that I do is help at a local shop) and while I was there I had to buy something. I've been looking for the new book by The Quilt Branch and they just happened to have the book. So I bought some fabric to make the tree skirt and cut the fabric out tonight. I've got so many other things I need to do, but instead I do this. I think I'll work on this tomorrow and I post my progress. PeeWee have a nice night. TaTa for now.

My First Quilt

I thought tonight I would give everyone some background information. Just after my husband and I got married I wanted a sewing machine. We went and got a small machine I think it was a Brother. I started making little things like placemats and basket garters. By that following January we had a quilt/sewing shop open in town. So I thought why not learn to quilt. I always liked quilts and how they looked. So I signed up and started my first quilt class in January 1998, it was real basic we learned to make 9-patch blocks, half square tri-angles and something else but I'm not sure what it was. This was a four week class, in class the second week the teacher said that they were going to have a "LATE NIGHT QUILTER". I thought this would be neat to do, so I asked if I could sign-up. I was told that it was not a difficult pattern and should be able to do the project. I bought fabric and I was hooked, the photo above is my first quilt. I was able to finish the top that night. I couldn't believe that I had made this and in one night. That was it from that point on I would go to every class I could and every late night quilter. Pretty soon I was making a quilt every few weeks and have been doing this for over 10 years. Boy time does fly when your having fun. I also got a Viking Rose for my First Anniversary. Those crazy dancing ladies

This was a quilt kit that I found at the Houston Quilt Festival in 2007. This was one of those quilts that caught my eye. This was not a quilt style I would have normally picked,but in the end I enjoyed making it. This funky fabric montage is referred to as the "dancing ladies" quilt. I used a variegated thread, and a all over stipple pattern for the quilting portion of this quilt. I like to quilt all my own quilts myself on my short arm Ken Quilt 622, it is a oldy but a goody. In Santa's Workshop Quilt

This was a class that I took at a Quilt Shop. We learned to us fabric marker & crayons. This was my first attempt at shading. This quilt was done over in about 7 months. I really enjoyed all the different elements. All the fabric in the faces are the same color, just required shading or coloring to make it different colors. This was also the first time a did a machine applique quilt, then I decided to do the circle quilt below. I think I'll be putting this in our guild quilt show in September.

Here are a few more pictures. The quilting was more of a abstract per request of my co-worker. I have a short arm quilting machine and most of the quilting was done on that machine. I think the quilt turned out quit well. I always fear that if you make a quilt for someone they won't like it when it's done.

Quilt I just finished

I've been working on this since mid-February. This is not actually my quilt I made this for a co-worker. This was a quilt that had started out in an issue of McCall's Quilting. It was pictured as a throw the was 46 1/2 x 66 1/2. The quilt I did was 90x108. I graphed the quilt to make it larger. There are 12", 9", 6" and 3" Blocks. All the large blocks have a smaller circle in the block that I Machine Appliqued. Most 95 % of the small blocks also have smaller circles in them as well. This was also my first attempet at making a Duvet Cover. I think all turned out good.

New To Blogging

I've finally decided it was time to start Blogging!! Here goes I've been Quilting for just over 10 years. I love to look at everyone's works of art and thought I should try doing this. I'm in the process of working on quilts for our up coming guild quilt show in September. So maybe in the next day or so I'll put some of the photo's up for all to see. Take care for know
